Privacy & Platform Policy
Please read these terms carefully before using the WideOpenLabs community ride platform. By using the app, you agree to the following principles and rules.
1. General Principles
- The platform is a technology intermediary that connects Ride Creators and Ride Joiners.
- The platform does not own, operate, or control vehicles.
- All users participate voluntarily and at their own risk.
- Carpooling is intended only for sharing travel costs and reducing traffic congestion.
- The platform must not be used as a taxi, cab, transport business, or commercial passenger service.
2. Ride Creator (Driver) Terms
Eligibility
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Hold a valid Indian driving licence.
- Have a valid RC (Registration Certificate).
- Have mandatory motor insurance.
- Ensure vehicle fitness and roadworthiness.
- Comply with all traffic laws.
Driver Obligations
- Provide accurate vehicle details.
- Arrive at pickup location on time.
- Drive safely and responsibly.
- Not drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or intoxicants.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and hygiene.
- Ensure seat belts are available and functional.
- Follow agreed route unless passengers consent to changes.
- Inform passengers of significant delays.
Cost Sharing
Ride contributions are only for sharing costs such as fuel, tolls, parking, and wear and tear (if permitted by local regulations). The Ride Creator shall not use the platform to earn profit. Repeated profit-making activity may result in suspension or termination of account.
Prohibited Conduct
- Solicit cash outside the app.
- Demand additional payments.
- Carry more passengers than legally permitted.
- Carry illegal substances or prohibited items.
- Use the platform for commercial taxi operations.
- Harass, threaten, discriminate against, or abuse passengers.
- Share personal information of passengers.
3. Ride Joiner (Passenger) Terms
Eligibility
- Be at least 18 years old (or use guardian-approved account if allowed).
- Provide accurate profile information.
- Maintain a valid mobile number and email.
Passenger Obligations
- Arrive at pickup point on time.
- Treat the driver and other passengers respectfully.
- Wear seat belts where available.
- Follow safety instructions.
- Pay the agreed contribution through approved payment methods.
- Keep the vehicle clean.
Passenger Restrictions
- Smoke or consume alcohol without consent.
- Damage the vehicle.
- Carry prohibited or illegal items.
- Threaten, harass, or abuse others.
- Distract the driver.
- Bring additional passengers without approval.
4. Women Safety Policy
- Female users may choose women-only rides where available.
- Identity verification may be required.
- Any harassment complaint may result in immediate suspension.
- Emergency SOS features may be provided.
- The platform may share ride details with law enforcement upon valid request.
5. Identity Verification
Users agree that the platform may verify mobile number, email, government-issued ID, and driving licence for Ride Creators. The platform may suspend accounts failing verification.
6. Ride Cancellation Rules
- Ride Creator: Must cancel only for genuine reasons. Frequent cancellations may reduce account rating. Repeated cancellations may result in suspension.
- Ride Joiner: Must cancel as early as possible. No-show behaviour may attract penalties. Repeated no-shows may result in account restrictions.
7. Rating & Reviews
- Users may rate each other after a ride.
- Fake reviews are prohibited.
- The platform may remove abusive reviews.
- Low safety ratings may result in account suspension.
8. Insurance Disclaimer
The platform does not provide automatic passenger insurance unless explicitly stated. Vehicle owners remain responsible for maintaining legally required insurance. Users acknowledge that insurance coverage may vary depending on policy terms.
9. Emergency Situations
- Contact local emergency services when necessary.
- Report serious incidents through the app.
- Cooperate with investigations.
The platform may provide emergency assistance features but does not guarantee emergency response.
10. Zero Tolerance Policy
Immediate account suspension may occur for: drunk driving, sexual harassment, physical assault, stalking, threats or intimidation, identity fraud, criminal activity, commercial misuse of the platform.
11. Privacy & Data Protection
Users agree that the platform may collect: name, mobile number, email address, vehicle details, GPS ride information, ratings and reviews. Data shall be processed according to this Privacy Policy and applicable Indian laws.
12. Liability Limitation
The platform acts only as a facilitator. The platform is not responsible for vehicle condition, driving behaviour, passenger conduct, delays, traffic conditions, or personal disputes. Users participate at their own discretion and risk.
